Canada Express Entry Explained: A Simple Guide to CRS Points

VisaEnsure Team·30 May 2026 7 min read

Canada's Express Entry system manages applications for several economic-immigration programs. Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and the highest-scoring profiles are invited to apply for permanent residency.

What makes up your CRS score?

  • Core human capital: age, education, language ability and work experience.
  • Spouse factors, if applicable.
  • Skill transferability: combinations of education, experience and language.
  • Additional points: provincial nomination, a job offer, or Canadian study/experience.

How to improve your score

Small improvements can lift you above the cut-off. Retaking a language test for a higher band, completing an additional credential assessment, or gaining more skilled experience all help. A provincial nomination adds a decisive 600 points.

Where VisaEnsure helps

We assess your current CRS score honestly, then build a step-by-step plan to maximise it — so you enter the pool with the strongest possible profile.
